Andrey Arkhipovich PALGOV (December 13, 1905 – March 3, 1964) was a Kazakhstani veterinary microbiologist, Candidate of Veterinary Sciences (1949), senior researcher in the specialty “Epizootology” (1953), head of laboratories for the study of infectious anemia of horses (1946-1950), for the study of equine diseases (1951-1957), scientific and diagnostic (1957-1962) and virology (1962-1964) of the Kazakh Scientific Research Veterinary Institute.

He was born in the village of Novo-Atamanovskaya, Achairsky district of the Omsk region in a peasant family.

In 1930, A.A. Palgov was accepted as a student at the Kazakh State Zootechnical and Veterinary (Alma-Ata Veterinary) Institute, from which he graduated in 1933 and was awarded the qualification of a veterinarian.

After graduating from the Institute, A.A. Palgov worked for 6 years as a veterinarian in the Kazakh Horse Management system and stud farms of the Kazakh SSR.

In January 1939, according to the order of the People’s Commissariat of Agriculture of the Kazakh SSR, A.A. Palgov was transferred to the position of junior researcher at the laboratory for the study of equine diseases KazNIVI.

In May 1941, he joined the ranks of the Soviet Army. In October 1946, he retired with the rank of major in the veterinary service.

Upon completion of military service, A.A. Palgov was appointed head of the laboratory for the study of infectious anemia of horses KazNIVI.

On May 13, 1949, at a meeting of the Scientific Council of the Alma-Ata Veterinary and Zootechnical Institute, A.A. Palgov successfully defended his dissertation “Gray-allergic diagnosis of brucellosis of camels and the experience of growing healthy camels” for the degree of Candidate of veterinary Sciences.

A.A. Palgov is the author of more than 40 scientific papers. One of the main directions of his scientific activity is the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of equine diseases of infectious etiology, some conclusions from which were included in the state instructions and manuals on combating infectious diseases of horses (contagious pleuropneumonia, anthrax, malignant myth, infectious encephalomyelitis, infectious anemia, necrobacteriosis, salmonella abortion of mares and diplococcal pneumonia of foals-suckers).

Andrey Arkhipovich was buried at the Central Cemetery of the city of Alma-Ata
