Kasenov Markhabat Melisbekovich, General Director of “Kazakh Scientific Research Veterinary Institute” LLP, JSC “National Holding “QazBioPharm””, Professor, Winner of the Al-Farabi State Prize in Science and Technology.
M.M. Kasenov graduated from Kazakh State Agrarian University in 1997 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine. He started his career in 1997 at the Scientific Research Agricultural Institute (renamed in 2010 as NIIPB) as a senior laboratory assistant in the laboratory of "Inactivated vaccines". In 1998, he enrolled in the extramural postgraduate programme at NIARI and was selected for the position of Junior Scientific Associate at the "Biological Control Department". In January 2006 he successfully defended his PhD thesis. Since January 2006, he was promoted to the position of Senior Scientific Associate of "Biological Control Department", then to the position of Head of Laboratory of "Control of Technologies and Biopreparations" (2011), Deputy General Director for Production Activities (2019) and from the beginning of 2022, he was promoted to the position of Advisor to General Director for production and promotion of QazVac vaccine.
From 8 December 2022, he was appointed to the position of General Director of LLP "Kazakh Research and Development Research Veterinary Institute" JSC "National Holding "QazBioPharm".
M.M. Kasenov is a specialist in biotechnology, epizootology, virology, organisation of production of biopreparations, development of technologies for manufacturing and control of prophylactic preparations. He was the head of 20 projects carried out within the framework of republican scientific and technical programmes and grant financing on development of means of specific prophylaxis, diagnostics of viral infections and epizootological monitoring, the executor of 7 international projects.
Under the leadership of Kasenov M.M. the laboratory "Control of technology and biopreparations" in 2013 received accreditation certificate according to GOST ISO/IEC 17025 "General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories".
In NIIPBB Kasenov M.M. by order of the Committee of Veterinary Control and Supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan organised the preparation of means of specific prophylaxis and diagnostics of epidemic diseases of animals, in 2020 the volume of production compared to 2018 increased by 2.8 times, in 2021 the volume of production compared to 2018 increased by 5 times.
With the direct participation of Kasenov M.M. developed technologies for the manufacture of inactivated vaccines "Split allantois inactivated vaccine against seasonal influenza", "Kazfluvac" against avian influenza, "Refluvac" against swine flu, vector vaccine for the prevention of tuberculosis, vector vaccine for the treatment of tuberculosis for public health. Participated in the development of vaccine against nodular dermatitis from Neethling-RIBSP strain, the vaccine has been used since 2020 for prevention of nodular dermatitis among cattle in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Kasenov M.M. scientific director of the innovation project "Organisation and conduct of preclinical safety trials of vaccine against COVID-19 (stage 1)" for 2020. One of the creators of the first domestic inactivated vaccine against COVID-19.
M.M. Kasenov together with colleagues obtained a strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus, developed a technology for obtaining inactivated vaccine QazCovid-in and a model for assessing the effectiveness of biological protection of this preparation, organised the production of domestic vaccine QazCovid-in under the trade mark QazVac
For the first time in the history of the Kazakh National Research Veterinary Institute organised industrial production of more than 10 veterinary drugs developed by scientists of the Institute. Conditions for development and serial production of new drugs were created. The volume of production of means of specific prophylaxis and diagnostics of epidemic diseases of animals in 2023 increased 160 times in comparison with 2022.

Kasenov M.M. is regularly published in national scientific editions and foreign rating journals and has more than 150 scientific papers, 25 inventions, including 1 Eurasian patent, 24 articles in international peer-reviewed scientific journals with non-zero impact factor according to Thomson Reuters, 4 co-authored monographs. Hirsch index (h-index) - 6, according to Web of Science and Scopus.
Interned at leading research centers for the control of biological products: in the USA on the issues of "Procedures for ensuring the safety and effectiveness of vaccines" and "Testing the immunogenicity and harmlessness of vaccines and evaluation of diagnostic test kits" (2005); at the Federal State University "All-Russian Scientific Research Institute for Animal Protection", Vladimir, Russia on the development of methods diagnostics of viral diseases of farm animals by polymerase reaction (2006); in the State Institution "Scientific Research Institute of Influenza" of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, St. Petersburg, Russia on the development of methods of quality control and safety of inactivated influenza vaccine for public health (2008); participated in an international training on the control of influenza vaccines at the National Institute of Standards, London, UK (2012).
Kasenov Markhabat Melisbekovich - Laureate of the Fund of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Leader of the Nation. He was awarded with the Letter of Gratitude of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan N.A. Nazarbayev, Letters of Gratitude of the Chairman of the regional branch of the party "Nur Otan", Akim of Zhambyl region and the first deputy of the regional branch of the party "Nur Otan" of Zhambyl region, Certificate of Gratitude of the Akim of Korday district for active civic position and high patriotism within the framework of the Republican Forum "The fate of the country is my fate! For his contribution to the development of science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, he was awarded the Certificate of Honour of the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2018), the medal "Halyk algysy" (2020), Algys hat of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan (2021), Certificate of Honour of the Akim of Zhambyl region (2021), Laureate of the State Prize in Science and Technology named after Al-Farabi (2021). The name of Kasenov Markhabat Melisbekovich is included in the International Encyclopaedia "The Best People".
